The Real Wedding of Samantha and Calum at Dalmeny Park Hotel

Have a look at Samantha and Calum's big day at The Dalmeny Park Hotel - Wearing a beautiful Enzoani gown.

How did you hear about Opus Couture?

I was at a family wedding after recently getting engaged myself. I started chatting about our wedding plans to my fiancé’s cousin, who recommended Opus Couture. She had got her wedding dress there a few years back and spoke so highly of her experience.

How was your Opus Experience?

I had such a wonderful experience at Opus. I couldn’t fault them in the slightest. At every appointment, the staff make you feel so special. Even when Covid-19 came along, and I had to change our wedding date a few times, the girls were so understanding and reassuring.

Let’s start from the beginning - how did your parter propose?

Myself and Calum met in high school and started going out when we were just 15. After 12 years together we finally got engaged in June 2018. We were going to a soul music festival in Kelvingrove park in the West End of Glasgow with some family and friends. It was a gorgeous sunny day and Calum had planned to have everyone round for a few drinks in the garden before we left. Unknown to me this was all a plan! We had nearly finished our drinks and about to call for taxis when Calum had asked his friend to take of a photo of us both. As we stood smiling for what I thought was a photograph, but his friend recorded Calum going down on one knee holding a ring asking me to marry him! I was in such a shock and thought it was all a joke until I looked up at everyone smiling at us. We had some more champagne to celebrate then went on to the festival and had the best night! I was so glad I got to share the special moment with loved ones and have a video of it to always look back on!

Next up - THE DRESS!

I went to Opus Couture thinking I wanted a certain style! I always pictured myself in a tightly fitted dress with maybe some lace and a little bit of sparkle! When I arrived at the shop the assistant helped me pick out some dresses to try on. We went for 5 or 6 beautiful fitted dresses similar to the ones I had seen online and a few different styles so I had a bit of a mixture to try. She held up this gorgeous dark ivory satin Enzoni dress that had just arrived into the shop and no one had even tried it on yet. She asked if I wouldn’t mind trying this dress first. When I walked out of the fitting room and seen everyone’s reaction towards me I just knew that moment I had found my dress! Every dress I then tried after that I just kept going back to that first dress!

At my fitting appointment we decided to add a belt to the dress to give it a little sparkle. The seamstress worked wonders and even added a cute little bow at the back to hide where the belt ended! Hands down the team at Opus know exactly what they are doing.

Now for the big day…

I took lots of inspiration from Pinterest. I wanted our wedding to be elegant and modern. For the ceremony, we went with lots of white flowers & candles to give a soft and romantic feel! I let my bridesmaids pick their own dresses and they chose a lovely steel blue colour which matched perfectly with the guys kilts. The cake was a 3 tier grey marble effect with some sliver leaf to tie in the venues decor! Each tier had a different flavour which our guests loved!

We would love to hear a little more on your wedding day…

Our wedding day was such a rollercoaster of emotions for everyone. I think because of the pandemic everyone was just so happy that our day was finally happening. I just remember walking down the aisle and everyone had tears in there eyes. Our ceremony was perfect it was so personal and full of love and laughter. Our little dog Ruby even made an appearance for some photos wearing her dog of honour bow. She definitely stole the show! A memorial moment was dancing to Beyoncé - Love on top with all my family and friends surrounded with bubbles outside in the lovely sunshine. Our photographer caught the moment so beautifully!

Do you have any advice for our future Opus Brides?

Do not sweat the small stuff, things will be forgotten and will go not quite according to plan, but who cares? At the end of the day, you are marrying your best friend and celebrating the special and unique love you have for each other.
