The Elegant Castle Wedding of Sarah & Ross

Sorn Castle was the setting for the sophisticated celebrations of our real bride Sarah's wedding to Ross. Scroll on and discover more about this beautiful event deep in the Scottish countryside.

Wedding Date: Oct 9th 2021

Venue: Sorn Castle

Let’s start from the beginning – how did your parter propose? We would love to hear a little about your love story and the proposal!

My lovely husband surprised me with a trip to Iceland for my birthday, and he proposed to me on a Volcanic black beach! It was a complete surprise to me as I did not see it coming at all, but that made the moment even more special.

Tell us all about your wedding dress – any details you particularly love, how it made you feel, the moment you said YES!

I always knew that I wanted a dress with delicate lace and long sleeves, á la Grace Kelly. Opus was the first bridal shop that we went to, and the dress that became my dress was the first dress that both my mum and I spotted and pulled out. When I tried it on with a veil, we were both instantly in love. It just seemed the dress was made just for me – plus it even had pockets!!

Now for the big day decor! Did you have an inspiration, theme, colour palette etc?

After we decided on Sorn Castle as our venue, we knew that we wanted to go for something traditional yet rustic, in autumnal colours to match the beautiful trees and surroundings of the Scottish countryside. We then quickly decided on a lovely rich burgundy as the wedding colour and everything else slotted into place from there.

We would love to hear a little more on your wedding day – your feelings/emotions/most memorable moment and anything else you want to include about your day!

My husband and I had already been married for a year before our big wedding celebrations (thanks to a Covid-19 garden wedding the year before!), so I wasn’t really that nervous about the getting-married part. I was more excited to have all of my loved ones around again after such a long time of being apart. I really wanted to make the day extra special for both our German and British guests, and I do think we achieved that. The day could have not been more perfect, and I will never forget walking down the staircase with my dad by my side to my husband. It’s all I had ever dreamt of and more!

Do you have any advice for our future Opus Brides?

My advice would be to really enjoy the planning process. Bring your friends and family to your bridal appointments. Go out for a wee bubbly brunch before if you can and just make the most of it! Planning a wedding is such a special time, not just for yourself, but also for your friends and family.

How was your Opus Experience?

It was absolutely fantastic from beginning to end. My mum, who came over from Germany to help me find the dress, doesn’t really speak a lot of English, but the girls made the entire experience so great for both of us. Thanks for making us feel so special!
